Medicare Part D is offered by private insurance companies and provides prescription drug coverage.
Many Medicare Advantage Plans already include Part D prescription drug coverage.
Medicare Supplement (also called Medigap) plans do not include prescription drug benefits. Enrollment in a Part D plan with your Medicare Supplement will provide prescription drug coverage.
Original Medicare does not include prescription drug coverage. Enrollment in a Part D with your Original Medicare will provide prescription drug coverage.
How much is Medicare Part D?
There are typically two types of costs with Medicare Part D:
Plan premium
Prescription drug costs
Each plan has a list of drugs that they cover called a "formulary." Many plans divide medications into "tiers." Each tier typically costs a different amount.
A licensed agent can help you estimate your costs and find a plan that meets your needs. There are also savings programs and other options (such as preferred pharmacy networks) to help reduce your costs.
